A little problem...
While the device works as advertised, I found that it would not hold a charge more than five days. So I cannot just pick it up and use it at will unless I leave it plugged in 24/7.
I wrote Midway to ask if this was normal, I received a note saying basically that after 30 days it was my problem! I was given a manufacture's phone number that never works.
I cannot find anything that says the clipper must be permanently plugged in, so it is probably just defective batteries that are not worth the trouble to have replaced I guess.

I've Trimmed my hair for over 10 years
I've been trimming my hair with a Wahl cutter for years. This new product
is very easy to use and most important: Error Free. It takes no more the 10 minutes to finish ( I use an almost military cut) and I can do it prior my showever ever 2 weeks.
One thing I disliked about the product is the rechargable battery. Frankly
I have never had problems plugging the Wahl for it's use, so I don't know why they chose the rechargable. I'm never cutting my hair in another place that isn't my bathroom.

if you like it short
This is excellent for short (stubble) cuts. It is much more ergonomic and thorough than traditional clippers. Easy to use and fast. Worth every cent! Tuesday, October 21st, 2008

AVOID - downgraded to ONE STAR
>> Nov. 29 Update: <<
I wrote the review below after using the clipper once. Sadly, the second time around was not as good.
The clipper stopped clipping after a few minutes of use. I cleaned it thoroughly and I restarted and it worked for a few more minutes. Another cleaning followed and... so on. It was a time consuming process.
Then, as I was taking a shower, I heard a strange buzzing sound. It turns out it was the clipper that decided to turn itself on, inside a drawer. The on/off switch could not stop it but some vigorous shaking did. A few minutes later, as I was discussing the incident with my wife, I heard the buzzing again. More shaking pacified the clipper again, I don't know for how long.
It appears that, the more one uses this device, the harder it is to use. I would not have bought it, had I known that what I just shared with you was going to happen.

I must start with a confession: I used to be a Flowbee man well... until last night. I hate hair-cutting/sculpting/design establishments for several reasons but I won't go into that now. The short of it is that I've been cutting my own hair for the past 15 years or so.
I ordered this clipper because Amazon had it on sale and I thought I'd give it a try. Somewhat to my surprise, I like it and I will use it to cut my hair. I will also use it to cut my boys' hair because they hate the 'professional' jobs too.
This is sold as a 'short cut' device but, as someone famous used to say, it all depends on what the meaning of 'short' is. The manual suggests that the 'longest' setting is at 1/2 inch but, in practice, you can easily do 1-inch and even longer haircuts.
The operation is easy: after you charge the device, you turn it on and you begin 'combing' your hair with it. My wife started it but, after a few minutes, I became confident enough to do it myself with her watching and cheerleading me. I works fast but you may have to take it apart and clean it if your hair is too long to begin with. I had to do that. The end-result is something that could easily pass for a $20 salon job.
Technical details:
- The blade's shape approximates the curvature of the skull, making for a more even cut.
- Rechargeable - needs no batteries for its lifetime.
- The blade guard can be removed for cleaning.
- Can be cleaned with water or a brush.
- Comes with 2 combs, one of them allowing for a 'near-bold' length while protecting the skin.
My big issue with this device is that you get:
- the clipper itself
- the regular comb
- the bold-cut comb
- the brush
- the 1/8 ounce oil bottle
- the charge adapter
It adds up to SIX discrete, small or very small (the brush, the oil bottle) and easy to misplace items and there is no storage box or bag included. I would have gladly paid a few more dollars if such a necessary convenience was added. Since this is not the case, I am taking away 1 star from what should have been an easy 5-star evaluation.

Save a couple of hundred bucks a year!!!!!!!!!!
I had accumulated a $25 gift certificate from Amazon.com Visa and put it toward this purchase. It only cost $11 after shipping.
I first heard of the Remington Shortcut (August 08?) through Men's Journal Magazine. They had a small article about cutting your own hair, and the picture of the Shortcut looked pretty cool. I found the article in at my barber's of all places and tore out the page.
I love it! I bought the SCC100 and just cut my own hair for the first time. I love my hair short, and this product is great if you want your hair short and one length. I could have purchased the chrome model ($10 more) but dont see any advantages about it except for looks.
Before my purchase I have been paying about $14-$17 for my buzz cuts, up to twice a month at the barber. With the Remington, I am saving about $400 a year not to mention the time saved from waiting and planning trips to the barber. This deserves 10 stars alone! I can now use the savings for other things....
Do cut your hair outside or in the bath tub; be prepared for small bits of hair all over the place. It may be helpful to get a barber's apron for yourself while cutting.
It took several minutes to cut my hair, and I was skeptical until I showered and washed all of the loose hair from my scalp. I made several passes to make sure I got everything. The number settings correspond closely to the number settings that my (old!) barber uses with his metal blade. I used a 1.5 and was satisfied.
Remington has a video on-line with a demonstration. Its corny but it gives you an idea of how to use the Shortcut.
My haircut was perfect! My wife was even impressed with the job. She tried to cut my hair with an electric hair cutter before but it was only OK. Now I dont have to bother her about it, except maybe ask her to square off the back.
Its so easy to use. I dont have any complaints so far, and still have to use the charger.
Go Remington! Great product! I am recommending the Shortcut to anyone happy with a buzz cut.
