Sony STR-DN1000 7.1-Channel Audio Video Receiver (Black)

I wasn't very happy finding no S-video outputs, and really not enough RCA outputs ether. The design of the remote could use some major rethinking. Every thing else seemed to be quite adequate.

I have had nothing but headaches with this system. It worked fine for about 3 months. Then, the LG TV that it's connecting to stated - No Signal. I spent numerous time with Sony support on the phone. Conclusion was to have the system repaired. So off it went to Laredo TX to be services (plus shipping cost to me). They had the system for 10 days, then returned it back to me with No Fault found on the work order.
Upon un packaging the unit, I reconnected back to the HDTV (which was working fine just utilizing the cable box output to the TV). And.... NO SIGNAL. Called Sony service - who's best answer was to resend back the unit to be serviced.... And they (Sony) call's this Customer Service. If I provided this level of Customer Service where I work, I would be un-employed now!


No more Sony products for me...

I ordered a refurb STR-DN1000 from Amazon. The manual was close to indecipherable and in any event was woefully incomplete. The HDMI ports never worked correctly. Then, after 40 days of ownership, the unit flat out died. The stock AM antenna was useless. Then I learned that their proprietary iPod dock was nearly an additional $100. An expensive lesson. When it comes to A/V equipment, you absolutely get what you pay for. I'll never buy refurb again and probably will not buy my next receiver online in any event.

Sony STR-DN1000 7.1-Channel Audio Video Receiver (Black) I bought this unit to replace very expensive unit (On...) that failed after less then 2 years. This Sony is a wonderful unit. The sound and ease of operation can't be beat in the price range. Amazon's prices are great and free shipping a great bounces.

Great receiver! Works well with my current set up using HDMI - DVR, PS3, XBOX 360! Not only is it a great receiver and can do 7.1 it actually really sleek! The piano black finish and no buttons on the front makes it look sophistacted and cutting edge!
