Not for serious photography enthusiasts
My husband got me this for my birthday and I was thrilled because I prefer shooting film over shooting digital, but I still want to be able to have a quick way to get my photos online for people to view. It was easy to set up, and fast to scan. However, the quality of the scan was lacking. The colors were not as vivid as they should have been, the picture wasn't too sharp, and the highlights were blown-out. I thought that maybe it was just a badly exposed negative, so I tried a few that I knew were exposed well and produced a good print. Again, the highlights were very blown-out and the picture wasn't sharp. Because it's close by, I took the same negatives to Walmart and had them scanned. The quality was superior. We returned the product. It may be good for someone who is just looking for a quick way to get their negatives converted to digital (but if I were one of those people, I would pay maybe $50 at the most for a product that did that), but not for a photophile who needs the details to come out crisp and clear and not blown-out.

Sorry I didn't read the reviews first!
Shame on Brookstone for putting such a low quality item in the store! Their reputation for quality is taking a hit. I bought their scanner in the after-Christmas sale. My brand new Windows Vista laptop cannot connect to the scanner. None of the drivers on the installation disk work. The thing is very lightweight and plasticky. The instructions are horrible and useless. I'm taking it back tomorrow and will be hesitant to ever buy anything with the Brookstone name on it. By the way, the clerk at the store told me the scanner does a great job and none had been returned. Based on my experience and the other reviews, this has to be a lie.

Doesn't work w/ Apple PC's
I received the iConvert for a Christmas present. I called Brookstone the day after Christmas to confirm that this would work on a Mac computer and was assured that it would - the Customer Service Rep even told me that he had just been asked that question earlier.

It's now Jan 4 and I've loaded the CD into my MacBook and of course it won't work. There are no .dmg files that would be Apple compatible. The only files on the CD are .exe files for Windows.

Don't waste your time with this product if you have an Apple computer.

After reading all these reviews, it doesn't sound like it works very well with Windows either.

Don't buy this one.
Very slow, the quality of the scan was horrible (everything was completely washed out), and although I could get it to work on my old, slow laptop, it would not scan the slides on my faster desktop. Back it goes.

Appalling
iConvert Slide and Negative Scanner
This thing tries to get the same amount of total light out of each slide. Faces in a darker background are utterly, completely, totally washed out. Even with slides that are well balanced in value, the whites wash out. I scanned some excellent slides with horrible results. Also, not that it would have helped the product any, but the guide was written by someone for whom English was a second language.
