Vinturi Essential Wine Aerator

This product makes a huge difference if you're in a hurry to serve/drink a recently-opened bottle of red wine! It really smooths out the taste, minimizes the "bite", and generally mellows out the wine. I liked mine so much that I purchased 3 for Christmas gilfts. If you're a red wine drinker, you'll find this invaluable.

This device works! The Vinturi exhibits a peculiar hissing noise as wine is aerated while passing through on the way to the exit hole. Upon hitting the glass the wine has some foam/bubbles on the surface which quickly dissipate. We have used Vinturi on wines in the 8-20 dollar range and each one has benefitted from the aeration process.
The wines are immediately smoother and fuller in taste.
Realize you must place the device in the holder between uses as it will slowly release a few drops of wine (through the side holes and the bottom exit hole) after each use. I/we don't consider this a drawback, merely part of the process and well worth it.

The Vinturi Essential Wine Aerator is a simple device. You simply pour your wine slowly into the top reservoir and make sure when you are holding it you don't cover the small holes on the side. You can aerate into a decanter or into a glass. See? Simple.

But does it work? I wondered myself but after reading the reviews, I bought it and started the testing. I tested a range of red wine varietals from inexpensive to moderate, and it worked on all of them. I even tested a $2 Chuck, which it did help, but actually did the least for in all my tests. I immediately noticed the aromas were more mellow and smooth, the mouth feel was softer. None of these were hard to determine. The change was night and day for almost every bottle. So I was convinced. But in the interest of science and the possibility I am crazy, I thought more testing was in order. (Ok, it was an excuse to drink more wine with friends..)

So the second round was with wine aficionados and I poured all glasses out of sight and let the tasting begin. Each and every person was amazed at how well it worked, even though they were a skeptical bunch.

Wow! Can't believe something this pretty can actually perform an important function! You have to take the test before you're hooked. We tried one at a wine party - the before taste of wine - and after using the aerator - it does make a difference! Enjoy!

This was purchased as a Christmas present for a friend and I can tell you after we all tried it out, I'm sure I'll be buying more in 2009 for Birthday presents.
