Just what I wanted
Works great. Mounted in the living room, and can hear it throughout the entire first floor of the house. Very nice volume, well worth the money. Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

Great solution, easy install
Incredibly easy to set up, I bought one of these for my apartment because I can't hear people knock from my room. I also bought one for my research lab because we have large air handlers that create a lot of ambient noise so it was difficult to hear knocking there. Both work great. Friday, August 22nd, 2008

Good Product
The Heath Zenith Basic Series Wireless Door Chime performs as advertised. Set up was very easy and the instructions were clear. It took about 35 minutes to install including time to set the type of chime, mounting the chime unit above a door, and mounting the doorbell/transmitter on the front door. I used screws to mount the doorbell, but the unit can also be mounted with the supplied two sided tape. I used this tape to mount a second doorbell on stucco where there was no wood available. One minor complaint about the unit, jumpers, like the ones used on old computer boards, are used to set everything. Switches would have been an improvement. But, as the instructions point out, most users won't have to move a jumper.
The doorbell claims to transmit a signal up to 150' through walls, windows, doors, etc. The operative word here is up to. What the instructions do not make clear is that any obstruction will reduce this distance. In our setup the doorbell transmits about 50' with no trouble. One aspect of this doorbell that you have to get used to is the delay. Press the button and there is about a 2 - 5 second delay before the chime sounds. The delay seems even longer with the second doorbell that I have set to chime once, as opposed to the front doorbell which chimes twice. Also, if the chime is pressed multiple times it seems to cancel out an earlier request to chime, but I didn't make an extensive test of this. This may also be the source of reviewers saying the bell only works about 50% of the time. However, the chime is loud and easy to hear all over our house.
I decide on the battery operated chime with wireless doorbell because I had no convenient AC outlet. If you have an AC outlet in just the right spot, the plug-in chime and wireless doorbell would probably be a better choice. Finally, I purchased the second doorbell through one of Amazon's third party vendors (BIC). The doorbell works fine. However, with shipping the doorbell was ~$13. Considering that the entire unit is just $19 this is a bit much. Unfortunately, even though I went to Amazon's web site to cancel the order immediately after I placed it, it was already being prepared and couldn't be cancelled. If you need a second doorbell, I would just order and entire second unit and use the chime as a backup.
Overall I am happy with this product and recommend it. However, if you are planning to transmit over 100' be aware there could be problems.

Pretty Good
This doorbell is pretty cool. It has different options for the number of chimes and it is easy to post the button by door. But sometimes it goes off when there is no one at the door. Weird... Saturday, June 14th, 2008

Don't buy this! It cannot be trusted.
I received this about a week ago, and after much moving around of the button I discovered that it is only reliable in the same room as the bell unit. About 30' away, through a glass window and a plaster wall, and it only worked 50% of the time.
If there is a doorbell button people will push it, and half of the time you won't know a thing about it and whoever it is will do what they do when no one answers the door. The unit is not to be trusted; it is worse than useless. Mine is in the trash, along with almost double its value in batteries for which I now have no use.
