Not what I expected
I kept hearing about steam 'mops' and had to have one. I guess this one is okay if you are looking for something like a mop but you don't wring it out. I apparently used way too much steam and soaked the pad. It didn't work too well after that and I had to replace the pad. Next time I used it I used little steam and it cleaned. I will keep using my floormate but will use this to sanatize around the garbage can, dogs' food bowls and for quick clean ups. To me, no differnt than a swifter mop. Doesn't do any better or worse. Does not cut hard to clean grime. I still need to use elbow grease on some parts of the tile. Wouldn't use on my hardwood because I'm afraid of what it would do to sealed hardwood. Not a good investment and will keep my floormate. Sunday, November 16th, 2008

good basic cleaning tool
This is the second bissell steam mop I've purchased. The mop heads are better on this one than the earlier version. Overall, this product is a good steam cleaner, but it is not a heavy duty steamer. I had white tile in my kitchen floor and with three dogs, this steam mop gets the floor visibily clean, but not thoroughly clean (meaning if you scrubbed it by hand you'd find more dirt).
I really like this thing because the floors feel clean after you use it. Two biggest negatives are that it will streak hardwoods, which drives me crazy and the cord is too short. With that being said, it's better than any other mopping alternative for the same price or less. It certainly beats traditional wet mopping.

Clean mop!
The mop works very well... yes the cord is a bit too short, but I'll have to learn to adjust to that. The washable covers work well and should last a long time. The first time out I was emptying the unused water back into the distilled water jug and dropped a very important part into the jug that had to be fished out.... but that won't happen again. Better than the SHARK steam mop by far!
I have 2 dogs, and one is still house and crate training. I try to be as chem free as possible where the dogs are concerned, my floors and their crates. I borrowed my dad's SHARK steam mop, and it worked fine, but it was flimsy, and I knew that I would be using the mop multiple times a day when the dogs track mud in or the puppy has an accident-- So I got the Bissell Steam Mop- and it is WONDERFUL! The unit is far sturdier from top to bottom and it is actually multi-functional. I use it as intended with the micro fiber cover to mop the floor, but then I take off the cover and am able to get a direct jet of steam that I can use in the corners of the tiled bathroom that the mop doesn't reach or that gross caked up mess that shows up in that corner under the fridge-- I was able to shoot the area with steam for about 20 seconds with the uncovered mop and then it wiped easily away with a paper towel- I always keep the water bottle filled and use it everyday! I heard that microfiber mop pads shrink in the dryer, so i wash them in the laundry and then take them out wet and put back on to the steam mop wet to air dry in the shape they need to stay in. left streaks on my hard wood floors
It left streaks, where the steam comes out on my hardwood floors. I guess it does ok on tile, but I think you are also pushing around the dirt that sticks to the pad.
wouldn't buy this again or recommend it to a friend.
