Lives up to its title
I read many, but rarely write a review - however this is very nice work. I am formally trained in exercise physiology, and think the authors deliver an excellent resource for the serious novice to advanced lifter.

Very practical training book
I read the first Mark Rippetoe book, "Starting Strength" and I was amazed at how detailed all the information about every type of recommended exercises was. "Practical programming" has the same amount of detail, but this time geared towards the planning part of training. It has everything from proper rest, nutrition to specific training programs depending on how advanced you are. It's a really good read... Saturday, November 1st, 2008

Better investment then gold!
For two years I've been doing different routines and searching countless hours on the net for the "right" routine. I've spent hours trying to come up with my own. I've made progress, but wonder how much more I could have made if I would have just started with this. I was smart and bought starting strength months back (I then learned how to do the exercises)but didn't think I needed this. I was wrong. Now after two years of lifting I'm starting over. But now I no longer need to look for the next best routine, I already have it. The best part is I'm set for, probably, the rest of my life as far as my routine foundation goes. Now in a year or two if I change my mind I'll be sure to update this, but at this point it doesn't appear that I'm going too. Even if you don't agree completely with this book it does simplify a lot of seemingly complicated theories on strenght training. The strength chart at the back is worth the money by itself. Can't wait to start crushing those intermediate numbers!!!! Monday, October 27th, 2008

Practical Programming for Strength Training. A must have!
Whether you are a strength coach, any person who trains others to increase their strength or looking to learn more about improving your own strength, this is a must have. It is science digested and put into print in a very easy to understand format. Tuesday, August 5th, 2008

Barbel work for Cyclists
This has been a fanastic book. I coach cyclists for the Velodorme, and it has been nothing but helpfulll in bringing up the power output in riders and having them pull out some better numbers on the track.
I recomend this book to anyone who has been having trouble in getting anyone over the line in any sport that requires power, strength, or a combination of both.
