happy with purchase
I have bought two of these fans and I'm in agreement with the reviews so far on the performance of them. When you set them to high they are a bit noisy but at low setting they are pretty quiet. I would recommend this fan especially for this price.

GREAT WINDOW FAN
i bought 3 of these fans and have no complaints..these fans will move alot of air, the motors are very quite but if turned up they can be noisy, due to the shear amount of air being moved..some complain about noise?? there is no way to move this much air quietly, in a small unit...i have run these 24/7 rain or shine, with NO problems...bottom line...if you need a small window fan, this is the one !!!!

Not quiet at all
After reading so many positive reviews I felt this was going to be a good choice. However, disappointment set in as soon as I removed the fan from the box. The plastic halves did not fit together well - reminiscent of a cheap plastic toy. Since I was not looking for aesthetics I went ahead and put it in the window and turned it on only find that is was extremely loud on high, very loud on medium and loud but tolerable on low. The next problem was the fan is poorly balanced, especially at the high and even medium speeds. I let it run on high hoping it would work the vibration out but instead the vibration literately forced window open and the fan almost fell out - fortunately I was right there and saw what was happening.

I let it run for a while, on low, and it did pull in a lot of air but when I was trying the different settings the left fan motor shorted out with a large spark. I quickly unplugged it, put it in the box and back it went.

I can imagine I was just unlucky enough to receive a defective fan but based on the amount of noise it makes, the extreme vibration and poor manufacturing it seems like there is little to no quality control. I would not recommend this fan.

Not as quiet as some fans, but a great unit overall.
This is the second one of these fans I've purchased for my home. I love that it can both push air out of your house and pull air in. I use it in the evenings when it has cooled off outside, but is still hot inside. It works like a charm and prevents me from having to buy an A/C unit for my apartment in Southern California.

This second fan is not as high quality as the first. The locking mechanism on the pull-out extensions will not lock tight enough to allow the fan to stand vertically - i.e. this fan will not work in a window where it needs to stand on its end.

The noise level on this fan is pretty high.

Did Not Work
Only one side of the fan worked so was returned. Rather blew my efforts to buy on line as a time saver. The part that bothers me the most is that this is a brand new item that is land fill. It didn't seem to have much metal, if any in it, so it probably can not even be recycled. Why can new products not be produced that consistently work. I would certainly be willing to pay double, triple etc for a product that is made well enough to go on and on doing the job for which it was designed. Made of metal please so at "the eventual end" it could be recycled. So I'm back using a fan that is probably at least fifty or sixty years old. It bangs and clangs but works.

Amazon was easy to deal with and refunded the cost plus return shipping.
