Cheesy but catchy
Obviously this song is geared towards getting peoples attention due to the subject matter. Isn't that the point of Pop music (as well as having a catchy tune, which I believe this song does)? I do agree that it seems to be trying too hard in some ways and not enough in others though. Katy herself seems to be trying (or being directed toward trying) too hard to be unique and hip for today, though the song itself is far from complex and revolutionary. However, like it or not, it's a catchy and fun song with a slightly different flavor that grabs people. But to each their own opinion.

Leave Kate alone.....leave her alone.
Some of these reviews are very bitter not because of the music but because of the lyrics. This is a great song with a great beat. Please come out of the closet all you Kate Perry I Kissed A Girl haters and use your brain, not your behinds. Oops! Did I say that?

In love with a girl
Katy Perry's "I kissed a girl" IS a catchy, cheesy, summertime dance pop song. Former Christian pop star Kate Hudson (now Katy Perry) decides to be "daring" and sings about how she "kissed a girl/I liked it." The song is as cheesy and ephemeral as the girl's cherry chapstick. Perry isn't trying to make a serious statement about lesbian love like Melissa Etheridge's "Come to my window",in which the blues rocker defiantly faces down a condemning society ("what do they know about this love?")

"I kissed a girl" is tacky, like the Jill Sobule version, except Sobule was able to get Fabio for her video, and the song ends with the two women living happily ever after. As a dance pop song,it's fun, with a catchy melody. The instrumentation is perfect for a dancefloor. Other than that,it's not worth taking seriously. Katy Perry kissed a girl, she liked it, it was so wrong, it felt so right... who cares???

Just looking for attention it seems.
Katy, I really don't give a crap that you kissed a girl. Big deal, get over it, and stop trying to get attention. Real men don't care, and aren't turned on by your immature antics. The music stinks too. But your silly attempts for attention to sell cd's is really the most disgusting. I hope you sink like a stone to the bottom of the pond.
And the lesbian that wrote a similar opinion to mine is dead-on....it's crass commercialism and sickening.

Truth or Dare...?
I am not a homophobe, but I just have two comments about this mediocre pop song:
1) Between this song, Pink's U + Ur Hand, and countless Hip-Hop "like it from behind" references, it's virtually impossible to listen to the radio today without exposing preteen children to some form of inappropriate overt sexuality.
2) How many young girls will be inspired to "experiment" this summer based on the pop culture validation of this song?
