Zero improvement on cable reception
I have Comcast cable in my home. The cable comes in from the outside and then is split two ways. The first split feeds my main floor where I have two cable outlets. The second split feeds my second floor where I have one cable outlet, so 3 cable outlets altogether. The reception on my second floor and one outlet on first floor have always been sub-par so I purchased the Motorola 484095-001-00 Signal Booster to help. After a few weeks of testing and multiple ways of installing it, it has provided zero improvement in my signal.
Some reviewers claim that you MUST install this at the entry point of your home. I'm not sure where they get that information from, but I tried this way first and no improvement. I then tried the booster at each cable outlet and it showed no improvement. I tried many differnet combinations and many different channel tests and the signal was the same regardless. I even tried moving TVs around to test if it was the TV and no it was not. I moved VCRs as well.
I have ensured that all my cable connections are snug, all the wiring is good. Now, understand that my picture on the poorer reception outlets is not terrible, it is just lower than what it should be. The cable booster should improve the picture, but it doesn't.

Fixed my issues
This signal amp fixed the issue with long run cable feeds in our house. The only complication with install is the need to have an available electrical plug to power the unit. It does use coax for the power connection. A lenght is supplied with the unit and this works if the plug is nearby. NOTE that this amp needs to be placed where the cable or antenna feed enters the house. Saturday, September 13th, 2008

Fantastic
I moved into a new house with my family this past year, and the house was built in the mid-80s. So the wiring was not necessarily up to snuff for all of today's technology, but in general, worked well enough. But pertaining to our cable service, which provides cable, phone and internet service, we were having a few issues. We have three primary television setups, one on the main level, one in the basement, and one upstairs. All three setups were using an HD-DVR cable box from the cable company, and all were having problems with choppy and stuttering programming, audio dropouts, and lack of ability to use the interactive functions of the cable boxes (such as guide, on-demand, etc.).
The cable company came out and told us that there was nothing they could do, and that we'd need to re-wire the whole house with better wiring. Not so keen on doing that, I ordered a couple of these Motorola Signal Boosters to try on 2 of the TVs. And I already had a Radio Shack booster around from another situation for the 3rd TV.
Long story short, I connected the Motorola signal boosters at 2 of the televisions, directly between the coax cable and the cable box. Notwithstanding what some people have written, that this needs to go right at the initial entry of the cable into the house, this setup worked perfectly. Our television programming was now pristine without stuttering, our interactive access was fully restored, and all of the issues went away.
Interestingly, the one television where we were using the Radio Shack booster was still experiencing problems. So I ordered another Motorola for the 3rd television, and lo and behold, the problems went away again. To conclude, I am totally sold on this booster, and it has been a quick and easy fix for our cable problems. I am sure I would not have been able to re-wire our whole house for the cost of these 3 boosters. Good work Motorola.

Works well
The signal booster was exactly what I needed for an HDTV set in the bedroom. There are a number of sets in the house, as well as a cable modem. This solved a reception problem and was a snap to install. Although I connected it only for a single set, it can be installed where the cable enters the house to boost the signal to all sets and connections. Sunday, September 7th, 2008

No miracles but does work..
I'm pretty sceptical about such devices but I decided to take a chance on this one since I have trouble pulling in some of the clear/unscrambled digital channels with two different QAM tuners.
First I tried the easy way and hooked it up inside where the cable comes into the wall from outside. No difference..didn't work. Next I tried it the correct way and went outside and installed it at the earliest place possible (used it instead of a cable co installed 2-way splitter) and WALLAH! I now get the one clear QAM channel I couldn't pull in before! I must say that the picture quality of the channels I was already getting didn't seem to change at all, so if you're looking at this device for that purpose it may or may not work for you.
