Couldn't be installed on local wireless network
Had to return this printer because it couldn't be installed on my local wireless network (Windows PC and laptop and a Macintosh). HP Tech Rep worked for four hours before giving up. Replaced this procuct with a Lexmark all-in-one which installed easily and works fine. Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008

Good printer
Well I like this printer very much, the bottom feeder is a plus for me, and setup was easy, I didn't even use the cd and downloaded the bundle from HP. I just used usb, I ddin't do the wireless thing. But as other reviews have indicated it is a little on the loud side. Printing quality photo on semi-gloss photo paper was horrendous, maybe I had a wrong setting. Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008

Quite Impressed and Pleased
The printer is not that large for an all in one and the setup is pretty easy, even if there are a few undocumented quirks. The printer is not very loud while the scanner is. I like all of the options available via the printer console and the HP software. I was able to connect the printer via wireless to my WPA-enabled and MAC-locked down wireless router. From a Vista machine, I was able to find the printer over the wireless network (make sure that you turn on network exploration) and all was well.
The one undocumented step that took me a few extra minutes was getting the HP software, specifically the HP Solutions Center to recognize the wireless connected printer instead of the USB connected printer. While I didn't see any documentation about this that came with the printer (I could have missed it), once you have set up the printer for the wireless while the printer is still connected via USB to the computer, do the following: 1) disconnect the USB; 2) open the HP solution center; 3) you will see that the printer is now listed as disconnected; 4) from the printer installation CD, click on the "Add Device" button and this time click on the networked printer (you may not be able to find the router, so you might have to enter this information again). All in all, had they just documented that last step, setup would have been a breeze and would have taken less than 20 minutes from box to working via wireless (with a Vista laptop no less).
I haven't had any problems with Vista Home Premium or XP, either other wireless or via USB.
As for comments about the paper falling off of the printer, if you installed the paper tray correctly it shouldn't be an issue. And if it is, you can extend the paper tray out so that longer sheets are still caught by the printer after printing is complete.
All in all, it is a pretty nice printer that I was able to get way cheaper than normal ($129 on Black Friday) and is working quite well on my wireless network, using both XP and Vista.

1 month and going fine...mostly
I am happy with the performance so far, although we have not tried any photo prints yet but the color and clarity of the document images printed so far is good and the speed is fine for a home/small home business application. I am a little disappointed in the fact you cannot use a wired & wireless connection simultaneously - this posed a small issue for our in-house wireless network but I guess this is the same with the other products in the category; at least that is what I read on other reviews before my purchase. Stay away from HP
At first I thought the 6480 was great.....until it started having problems. Clearing the fax logs was finally accomplished, but in the process, the ink levels were not longer available by any method.....i suspect as a result of an unnecessary firmware upgrade they had me do. More than 60 emails, a dozen phone calls and several weeks later I am still waiting for customer service to send me the replacement machine that they promised. I supplied call times & days as they requested, but so far they have only called when I am sleeping or away from the phone, but never at the time/s stated on their info requests. Paper feed problems also visit often, but mainly support is dreadful and unacceptable I will never buy another HP anything. Friday, November 14th, 2008
