Slowwwwwww Hard disk
I am taking the time to review this item in hope it will prevent someone from making a wrong decision. This netbook is EXTREMELY portable. I bought it to carry around my motorcycle trips and use Skype when in wifi range. Battery performance is medium. It should last for 2.5 hs tops. Most notably the SSD technology incorporated into this model makes using it extremely tedious. The hard disk light hardly ever turns off. Read and Write speeds are extremely low, and can only be improved by replacing the internal SSD hard drive with a new one with better performance (approx 70U$S). Anyways, the price is very attractive, and if you only want it to wacth videos or browse the web when in no hurry (turning it on and gettig to browse the web can take 3 minutes or more) you may be ok with it

ASUS Eee PC900 adventures
First let me say my Eee PC (Linux configuration) did all that it claimed.
Word processor (complete office package), web camera plus support, Internet
support, Fire fox web brower and more. I wanted to have C++, gcc and octave.
I was able with little effort to get c++ and gcc but my efforts failed with
adding octave. I then replace Linux with xp. It worked OK but was very slow.
I then replaced xp with disk encrypted fedora 10. Once disk transactions are
finished the speed is OK (this fits my xp experience also.) I am happy with
the current setup. I would recommend this for anyone who wants a very mobile
with word processor, spreadsheet, presentations, browser, e-mail (with web cam)
support. I would expect the software additions to increase as time goes on.

Great for school
I bought this mini laptop because the school asked me to get a low powered laptop for my 7th grader. He only needed MS Word. This was a great choice because the size and weight was easy to carry. There is no moving parts so I do not have to worry about the laptop bouncing around in his back pack (My son tends to run). The price was affordable [...]. The size did not take up the whole student desk and the power cord was very long (nice). Basically he only needed the power cord for the afternoon class because the battery was sufficient for the morning class. I especially liked having Open Office pre-installed. It was compatible with MS Word. The laptop is also pre-installed with some games and a dictionary. It also has a math tutorial which came in handy for me when I had to refresh my knowledge on fractions (what a relief). This machine powers up fast and the 16G memory is plenty for my son.

Cute Laptops for a great Price!
This Laptop is the best! If you want a portable computer then this is the laptop to get. It is small and light weight! I can take it everywhere I go. I love it! Only thing is I had to get a friend to load XP on it since it came with Linux but not that XP is on it I can do anything! I do wish it had 1 PCMCIA slot but what can you do:)

Excited to get it!
I haven't received mine yet. It comes to me next week as I expect and that is fine for me. My delivery time is greater because of where I live.

One reviewer mentioned that if you need IE to see some websites you are out of luck. Well, not really because you can get Crossover Office from Code Weavers and it will allow you to run Office and IE on Linux w/o a Windows license. I have it and it works great on my desktop systems. I see no reason why it wouldn't work on the Eee 900 with Linux.

Can't wait to get mine. I do financial planning and am creating a website and move about a lot doing consulting and taking notes. This will be perfect. I went to a local store before buying so I know what I am getting. I have a big MacBook Pro as my main work horse. It is fantastic but heavy to bring to my client meetings when I don't have to do major work. The Eee 900 will be a great benefit.

I will post a review when I get mine next week.
