Samsung LN40A550 40-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV

Let me first say that this is an excellent tv. We replaced our 4+ year old 34" Sony Trinitron XRB 1080i with this. The picture coming from a Blueray disc from a PS3 in 24p mode is outstanding.

The free shipping from Amazon (freight truck) took only 2 days; a lot less that we had expected.

The are only two things I'd like to see different. The first is the audio system as other reviewers have touched upon. Our 55" Sony lcd does make this set's sound system seem very lacking. If this were going to be my main tv for seriously watching movies, Id absolutely bypass the built-in speakers and utilize a real sound system.

The second change Id like to see, and this isnt specific to this set, I still dont get why any manufacturer I've seen can't get the source selection editor right. What I mean is when you switch from cable/satellite to dvd or game etc, you cannot turn off the need to pass through the option to select the built-in tuner. This is just a pet peeve of mine but I honestly cant remember the last time I actually used a connection that didnt use a signal from another device.

Overall, Id highly recommend this set. Upgrade the sound system and it gets 5 stars. Definitely play the waiting game with Amazon to get the best price as it does fluctuate. I paid $40 more than if I would have ordered the day before, but paid less that the sale price two days later.

Pros: This TV has a sleek, modern look that has the picture to back it up. The 30,000 d-contrast ratio is great....no ghosting. The blacks are wayyyy black. The PC input and wiselink USB connection works like a charm. The screen has little glare at the brightest times of the day. I highly recommend this product. Great for the money


Cons: The PIP mode isn't the best. I've found out that you are VERY limitied to what you can watch between PIP. You cannot change inputs between the PIPs. i.e. I can't surf the net with the PC input on one side, and view a DVD or Satelite reciever on the other. Not a big issue or the reason I bought the TV. Speakers are on the bottom but again..not a big issue, TV still sounds GREAT!

I bought the Samsung LN40A550 about two weeks ago, and...WOW! Amazing TV! I have blu-ray as well, and its just stunning on this TV. I really like the 24fps mode for movies and the picture adjustments are great on this TV. Just an amazing picture!

My best friend has a Sony LCD (42") and this Samsung BLOWS IT AWAY! There is no comparison (granted, his is only 720p) but even just on regular cable, the Samsung pic quality looks better than his on an HD channel. Pretty sure he'll be knocking on my door this Super Bowl.

I love this TV!

I heavily researched this TV before purchasing it and I'm blown away by this model. The picture quality is amazing, especially through over-the-air digital TV. I mainly bought this TV to compliment my PS3 and games and blu-ray titles look absolutely stunning; the colors are incredibly rich and vibrant. I have external speakers hooked up to my TV for sound, so I don't have much to say about the internal speakers. I also have to add that the white glove service was incredibly fast and I couldn't be happier with CEVA's service and consistent information on my TV's tracking status. Delivery arrived much sooner than expected!

I like how we can view our digital pictures directly through this TV. The picture quality is excellent. It's a futuristic TV and my husband loves it. We can also watch videos from our laptop and the internet on this TV screen.
