Good player, solid sound and picture
Have had for about 1 month, used for several long car trips. Great picture, very good sound. Plays very smoothly. Nice rotating screen, although still only 8". Well built. Charges quickly. Overall, very nice player. I had reviewed many evaluations and reviews prior to buying this unit, and it seems as though most thought that this was one of the best players in it's class. You do pay a little more for the Sony name, but I have always thought that was well payed money, as Sony usually makes very nice stuff.

No close captions?
This product is everything they say it is but it doesn't let you view the close captions. A big minus in my book.

Disappointed, expected better from Sony
First the good news. The sound , the picture , the performance is great.
Bad news: Doesn't play home made DVD-R discs. That was a surprise to me. Olso it only plays Region #2 discs. I would have expected a portable DVD player to be global specially from Sony! (I was aware of this fact before I bought the unit)

The Sony DVP-Fx820
I have had this product for about a month or so. Because my eyes aren't so good, I had to get something that I could watch and enjoy and see. the picture on it is very clear, the sound is very good and so far i am enjoying this product. The size of the screen is perfect and the really great part of this is that I can carry it in my backpack. I would recommend this product. And also, the price was good.
Thank you

If you are buying this for airplane trips ...
Hi,

We just bought and used this for a cross country trip via plane. Here's the challenge.
If you are sitting near the engines, then no headphone will be able to overcome the noise of the jet engine. We brought two different Sony headphones, the Sony MDR-CD60, and the Sony MDR-V150. The CD-60 was unusable anywhere on the plane because it simply didn't have enough volume. The CD-60 had the volume but we really had to crank it up. Enough so that we worried about hurting our daughter's ears. This problem might be solved with some Sennheiser or Bose or some other $500 noise-canceling ear-enveloping headphone. But hey, most people are buying this for their kids right? None of those headphones will fit a small kid. Particularly those who cannot be entertained by reading they cannot yet do.
My recommendation is this:
Get seats far in front of the jet engines.
Get the best headphones you can afford.
Turn down the resolution as far as you can to save battery life for getting stuck somewhere because of weather problems.
