Great backup device
Bought this hard drive to backup my PC before migrating to MS Vista (from XP) The hard drive installed easily (was automatically recognized by both XP and Vista), was faster than I expected, and performed seamlessly and flawlessly. Very happy with the purchase. The size of the device is very nice (approximately iPhone in size), making it easy to throw into a laptop bag - and the size is sufficient for mobilizing most any "My Documents" folder out there. I am very pleased with this device ... a bit more expensive than others, but is a perfect combination of performance, reliability and portability.

Quiet, stays cool, USB cable too short
But, if you have another USB cable, it will work fine. Most people have extra USB cables lying around. Works well with linux. I have formatted it for EXT3 and works beautifully on Linux. On Windows, works in EXT2 mode using ext2ifs and the like softwares.

Sleek Travel Drive, with shock protection: Self Powered, and Durable
This drive is fantastic. Formatting to NTFS works very well, though Vista's NTFS is almost as scary as most of the Trojan's that usually come pre-installed on external hard drives. Beware Maxtor, especially, and even SimpleTech 1TB SimpleDrive Pro Duo USB 2.0/eSata External Drive (FP-UFE2/1TB) comes with a trojan.

I do not recall any trojans on the Toshiba drive, but always scan the drives, before using them. Maxtor trojans will eat your data, after x amount of time (but you can use Testdisk (Ubuntu 8.04 DVD) to recover, if you do not format the drives, before using them.

The Linux journaling file system is perfect, on this external hard drive, and combinations of various file formats work very well. If you dual boot, one partition of XP NTFS, and one of Linux would be perfect, for info swapping to each Operating System. If you use Vista, I recommend *not* using Vista to format any external or other drives, other than the O.S. drive, itself.

This is a great product, and I am very pleased with the purchase.

Portable External Hard Drive
The Best. Easy to navigate. No Spams...free trial offers, etc. Just what you expect. (Forget MyBook, a piece of garbage).

So far - So good
Purchased item to store music and movies for deployment to Iraq. I will reserve my complete opinion for when I return and the system still works. Pretty quite and nice that its powered by USB. I have purchased 3 more so I would recommend product.
