Love/Hate Relationship...
My husband and I both have Ipods. So for Christmas, my daughter (7) requested one to listen to her music. We felt that 7 years old was a bit too young for an Ipod, so we were on the hunt for a kid-friendly mp3 player. We came across this Barbie player and I read the reviews. Based on the price and the reviews, we settled on this purchase. My daughter was excited to get this mp3 player for Christmas and all was well...until we started to load the songs. That was a nightmare!
But to be fair to the manufacturers of this product, we were trying to convert our Ipod songs onto her Barbie mp3. It proved to be quite challenging initially. After we found out how to do it, it became easier but still time consuming. It took hours!
The end result is that, we paid a great price, my daughter loves this player, it holds lots of songs, she can take it anywhere, but the songs were a pain to load. All in all, if I had to do it again, I probably would just buy a small Ipod for her because it is compatible with what we already have at home.
But she still loves this player, so the original goal was met.

Barbie MP3 holds 240 songs
This was inexpensive and therefore a good buy for my 5-1/2 year old daughter. (I got it for $12.99) It fits all her favorite CDs (HSM, Disney, Camp Rock, etc). And, I don't have to freak out if she loses/damages it. The only big drawback is that you can only hit forward or backward to choose songs, so if you want to listen to song #10 out of 250 songs, you have to scroll through quite a few songs if the last song you played was like #125. But overall she loves it and it is way cheaper than Ipods and other MP3s.

This is a fab deal!
Our 4yo daughter love this MP3 player! At $11.99, you just can't beat the price. Very easy for my husband to load the songs and it even came with a free demo pack. The only con we can find is the fashion plate pops off very easily, so I will continue to use double back tape on it to ensure it doesn't get lost. That's nothing, though. It's really a great little starter MP3 player.

My 3 yr old LOVES this!
I wasn't sure if this was going to be a good toy for my 3 yr old, but I got it anyway. I'm sure glad I did! This has been her favorite Christmas present ever! It was very simple to upload songs onto and she picked up on the Play/Pause/Skip controls right away (how do kids do that?). She even figured out the volume controls all by herself (although I wish she hadn't, I don't like her turning it up too loud). The battery lasts for quite a while because we haven't had to recharge it yet and she has been listening to it continually since Christmas (4 days ago). I bought one of the Barbie girls extra clothing packs with it and she has changed it's clothes and haircolor a million times. I would recommend this toy to anyone with girls from about 3 to 8 yrs of age (my 9 yr old thinks it is cool, but likes her ipod better).

An unexpected gem (even for Mac users)!
I bought this for my daughter last summer and was planning to give it to her for her birthday in October. My husband thought she was too young (turning 6) so I held off. But, when my son discovered my daughter's Christmas presents a week early I needed something else to give her and put the Barbie Girls MP3 player under the tree from Santa.

This was by far the best gift she received. She loves it and rarely puts it down. The player is easy to use, even at age 6. She figured out how to turn it on, play and skip to the next song almost instantly.

The player comes with three different size earbud covers, so will most likely fit any size ear. However, we had a set of kids earphones that fit over the head that she likes better. I suspect that older girls will like the earbuds because they are 'cooler', but my daughter didn't like the feel of them in her ears.

I was a little nervous about the software install since I am a Mac user and the software doesn't work with Mac. However, I had no problems installing it with Parallels Desktop/Microsoft Windows Vista -- the Barbie Girls software installed flawlessly and we have no troubles with it at all.

That said, I don't transfer files that way. When I connect the Barbie Girls MP3 player to my MacBook Pro (without Parallels running) the Mac sees the MP3 player as a hard drive. I am able to open it and drag and drop my daughter's songs directly onto the MP3 player -- much simpler and easier than using Windows Media Player and Syncing.

I wasn't expecting much from this product at the low price I paid, but I have to say I have been very pleasantly surprised. This is truly a great product at a amazing price. I wish there was a boys version...
