HP Deskjet F4280 All-in-One Printer, Scanner, Copier (CB656A)

This is my 2nd HP printer purchase. HP uses nice big rollers to feed the paper which enables fewer paper jams and a longer printer life. In fact, my previous HP printer outlasted three Windows incarnations and was only put out to pasture when my new PC went to USB cabling. That one, too, was a budget model.

However, this printer is sub-standard for my purposes of printing and archiving documents. The ink does not fuse to the paper very well at all. Highlighting text will make the ink run into blurriness and stain your highlighter. Rings of drink condensation on a table will also cause the ink to run. Even rubbing your finger on the print will cause smudging. I am very sorry I purchased this product. I have always held HP in very high regard, but those days appear to be over as another giant of American industry provides a shoddy product.

I order the deskjet printer. when I received it. the inside holder for
the printer cartridge was missing. so I send it back. I also ordered
the printer cable Belkin F133-10 hi-speed USB cable
and one extra cartridge. I send everything back. I was charge return
shipping fees and restocking charges from Amazon. on all items
returned. first I got a product with a part missing and was charged to
send it back. I'm not happy with Amazon in the way they do business.

The printer connected fine and did the test nicely, but from then on it would grab the paper and wrinkle it up. I called HP and had so much difficulty understanding the service technician because his accent was so strong. I probably spent an hour on the phone trying his suggestions to make the machine work. I must admit they sent a replacement and so far it has printed all right, but I'm really nervous about it because I haven't used it much yet. I just hope it keeps working correctly.

For the $ it can't be beat! No problems with installation. Works well and it seems faster than similarly priced units. Don't know about ink consumption yet, but we've been using it and it's still on the (smaller) cartridges that came with it.

The printer is satisfactory in most situations except when printing pages from the computer when it is a bit on the slow side.
